Like most, the older they get, the more expensive they are to maintain. Older cars are harder to maintain as a daily driver.
Mitsubishi are a "lower" tier Japanese car, so a bit cheaper made. Toyota/Lexus come out near the top, followed by Hondas.
Most Japanese brands are good bang for the buck though in general that is. Lexus is a luxury brand though, albeit one of the better ones. It is funny that you mention that. When I was stationed in Japan, I saw Lexus models with the Toyota moniker. Apparently, Lexus was not a thing there at the time. I would say Lexus is more on par with a Lincoln. As for other Japanese cars, I became a HUGE fan of Nissan when I was driving around with friends in Okinawa. Those cars are smooth as butter. There are crummy Japanese makers though. Daihatsu is the first that comes to mind. I remember driving around in a tiny van that looked like a Tic-Tac that had a 3 cylinder motor. That thing struggled when going up a hill. The engine whined like a child asked to clean up their room.

I am still planning on buying the Mitsubishi 3000gt vr4. It's a very underrated car and is overlooked. I've heard lots of things about them. They can be expensive to fix up if they weren't well maintained. They have a lot of tech in them like all wheel steering, active aerodynamics, active exhaust, all wheel drive all sorts of stuff that could break on them. They're one of the most technologically advanced cars to ever be made. I don't care though if they have a lot of stuff that can break on them. I am absolutely hell bent on getting that car and nothing is going to change my mind now. I want a 1993 model year though. First generation of the car but has the additional 40 horsepower and pop up headlights. After that they did away with the pop up headlights ): There is a 350z up for sale in a car lot up the road from me. 2006 with over 100,000 miles on it. Not sure on the exact mileage but I have looked at it online. Base model though with I believe an automatic. I really want a manual one though. I'd also prefer not to buy from a used car lot as they seem to come and go whenever. I'd prefer to buy from a dealership though despite any disadvantages. At least they can check if the car is mechanically sound or not and can stand by the deal they made. The only thing with the Mitsubishi is I'm not going to buy a car that old from the dealer. They're not likely to ever have one due to the age of the car and because of the rarity of them especially the vr4 model. I wonder if I will have trouble getting parts for the Mitsubishi as it gets older. Scotty Kilmer on YouTube said that Mitsubishi parts get more expensive as time goes on when asked about the dodge stealth/3000gt. If you watch Scotty, you might want to turn away from a Mitsubishi. He generally isn't a fan, unless this is a "toy." I don't plan on making it a daily driver. I will only drive it on the weekends or when I have days off from work and I feel like taking it for a spin. It uses premium gas and that is generally more expensive then regular gas so there's also that.

I have owned three Mitsubishi cars in my life. My first car was a Mitsubishi Mirage that I got as a gift from a family friend, then my dad gave me as a present his very sporty looking Mitsubishi Eclipse, which didn't last me because I wasn't being kind with the transmission, and the third was the first car I bought which was the Mitsubishi Evolution X.
According to the guy at the dealer in Rhode Island I was one of the first people in U.S. to own one. Since it was announced I was excited about it, so to me it felt like a pre-order. It is one of the reasons why I still like rally cars till this day.
In fact, the first big trip I did with it was longer than usual, from Rhode Island to D.C., then from D.C. to Atlanta, from Atlanta to Texas, from Texas to Utah, and from Utah to Washington State.
From Washington State I drove all the way to D.C. with it, and then back up to Rhode Island.
I passed through Iowa, Illinois and other States, but Montana was my favorite because there was no speed limit in some sections, and I was able to push it to 140 miles per hour.
There were also purple and other colors hills on both sides, so it felt like a psychodelic music video from The Beatles era.
I slept a night in Illinois and I remember going to an adult store where some very good looking girls were buying dildos. It didn't make sense why they would need those if they were so good looking, but I didn't ask.
I end up getting a book by Pamela Anderson where she describes how painful it was for her to lose her virginity at age 12 because the guy that raped her was very mean with her.
When I reached Rhode Island, I got pulled over only a few blocks from my house. It happens that I was driving with a suspended license and I had no idea it got suspended.
Apparently my license was suspended while I was living in Texas, and I had no idea because they send the fines to my Rhode Island address for some red lights I went through, so I had no idea, and since I didn't take care of that, they suspended it without my knowledge.
The cop was very nice and she gave me a ride back home, but I had to pay 100 bucks to get my car back the next day from the lot where they towed it to. It took me like a month to get my license back, and I had to go to court.
I moved to D.C. after that. Going through New York, I remember spending the night in Queens, but somehow I end up driving through the Bronx.
I remember being in a stop light late at night, that I was not willing to run through after all that, but the people from behind where horning their cars for me to move, to the point that they passed me regardless that there was a red light still there.
I didn't understand why, so I stopped on the next block, and I asked a black guy that was walking by why was people doing that. He said that it was dangerous to stop on red lights because you could get assaulted in that area. As soon as I heard this I went back to my car and left back to D.C..
Living in D.C. I wasn't making a lot of money. I was working in Lowe's in the wood section, so after 3 years and a half it became too difficult for me to keep making payments for the 5 years loan, so the repo guy came and took my car, without my keys, before I was even awake that morning, and that's how I lost that car, but I had a lot of fun stories with it during all those 3 years and a half I had it.

Definitely an emotional topic that takes me back to my first adventures after high school. Doug DeMuro is a materialistic, climate change denying scumbag and a fucking abomination of a human being who deserves to be shackled and publicly ridiculed. This guy is so stupid and ignorant that he actually recommends the H2 over the mitsubishi Mirage. Just look: In his "Doug scores" chart, you can see the Mirage is at the bottom of his list, far below the H2. This clown doesn't have a fucking clue about climate change.

My Mirage was a sedan. It is weird to see it in that version.

I just want to publicly apologize for my freak out a few posts back. I was posting emotionally and was not thinking rationally cuz I got baited big time. Most of the posters on this thread have done nothing wrong and are merely disappointing at worst. You guys didn't deserve the butt-end of my fury, because the fact of the matter is that I got flame-baited by those trolls dschult3 and scipioafricanus into flipping my shit. So yeah, Dschult3 and Scipeepee are the only real losers here. Even though I don't agree with this thread at all, the rest of you guys are cool and have done nothing wrong (expect maybe Balder, who deleted many of my posts). You gents shouldn't have to suffer for their sins.
