I'm also going to toss the liquor industry and the resort (waterpark, golf, casino, beach, etc.) industries onto my list, the former for the destructive effect it has on society and the latter for the destructive effect it has on the environment (remember that thread I posted a few months ago about the Nevada businessman who wanted to turn a huge chunk of wilderness into a golf resort?). Just think about the fact that the majority of earth's mangrove forests have been permanently lost to the beach resort industry. I remember my spanish teacher in high school presenting a slideshow of pictures he took on a trip to French Guiana in the 1980s, and one of the pics that he showed the class was a native palm forest that was later cleared for a beach resort. What a damn tragedy. The only people who benefit from this shit are the 1%, assuming they're evil/ignorant enough to support it.

There are so many general industries here. You surely can't be serious about hating the entire entertainment industry? I mean, how long could you go without any form of media?

Video game addiction destroyed my life, m8. I was one of those kinds of kids who was abandoned in front of a TV set while their parents got drunk/did their own hobby. Once we got high speed internet I became addicted to the web, too, which led me to browse pronograohy and other nasty stuff at a young age. Really destroyed every aspect of my development. It got so bad that by my senior year of high school I had become severely mentally ill from the years of withdrawl/binge watching screens, and I almost didn't graduate. Ended up having to move out of my folks house and seek psychiatric treatment in a different town. The effects can still be felt. The damage done to my eyes was so intense that kids at school often mistook me for a drug addict. Even the kids who actually DID do drugs (cocaine, alcohol, weed, etc.) didn't have nearly as bloodshot eyes as me. I still occasionally have suicidal thoughts when I look back on my situation at the time. I acknowledge that the issue was really just awful parenting, but I still hate the entertainment industry regardless. My life definitely would've been better if I hadn't access to games as a kid. The only type of art I like is literal art (drawings, paintings, etchings, carvings, sculptures, etc.)

Come on dude, I'm sorry you didn't have a good childhood, but these things are not to blame. Anything could habe destroyed your childhood if you're parents neglected you.

Please re-read the parts of my OP that I highlighted, in case you missed it. With that said, the entertainment industry is objectively one of the leading causes of the rising levels of narcissism among today's generation, along with social media. Film, modeling, music, all that stuff has glamorized good-looks and fame.

Reading, writing, kite flying, and drawing can be just as fun as playing games or watching movies, and are more productive as well. People were able to find enjoyment before the entertainment industry existed. Personally live action films (generally) bore me to death. The only type of film I consistently enjoy are animated films, and even then usually only if it's non-american (I'd rather drink bleach then sit through a disney musical like Beauty and the Beast). Like the old saying goes, "ignorance is bliss". If I didn't grow up with games I would never have become addicted to/dependent on them.

It's sad to hear you only think of video games as some kind of vice. And pleaee point out to me why reading and writing are more productive. Because to me, it all depends on how it's used. Flying a kite, yeaaaaaah because that is something I'd never get tired of right?

Reading and writing are life skills, unlike playing video games. People who play video games have a higher coordination skill than people who don't. And people who are addicted to video games go into withdrawl and become mentally ill. Also, please remember that video games are a form of entertainment, whereas books are the basis for education, information and record-keeping and have been since the dawn of civilization. I don't understand why you're comparing a form of entertainment to an invaluable resource like books. If you think I'm against video games and want them banished from existence, I don't. In my OP when I listed the entertainment industry I was mainly referring to mainstream performance-related scenes like Hollywood, TV and some music related stuff (ex. Michael Jackson). Games are fun but only in strict moderation.
