Uncharted 4: A Thief's EndHmmm.... Undeniably a quality game, yet at the same time a worn-out, stale and predictable formula. Doesn't take any chances and plays it safe to a tee.. Not even so much as a twist reveal... Well, maybe a small one with the brother, but nary a WTF moment there be... Objective Grade: B+ ( 8.7) Personal tilt: 7-ish...

That game is not bad, but it would have been better if it had dinosaurs towards the end.

The previous games all had some kind of wierd/supernatural enemy or other. This one had zilch... The stealth was much better improved though I'll give it that much.

I blame the fact that I use my PS3 for the brains of my arcade machine. So in order to play a non-arcade game I would have to make a lot hdmi changes, and I'm often get lazy to do all of that, but I will.

I just finished Torna: The Golden Country. I don't know how to rate this game, to tell you the truth. It is a Greek Tragedy, which is an addendum to Xenoblade Chronicles 2. If you are a fanboy of the series or just XC 2, this is what everyone desires. This would be a 10/10, since it improved upon the game mechanics, amped up the story, and it took the music to a different level.
However, as a stand alone, it wouldn't be a 10/10 for some, because it is a precursor to something much more grand. This may confuse others who are new to the game or series (Even though many reviewers pretend that this could be played through without any knowledge of any game. After seeing the ending, a newer player would be a bit confused about the premonitions of Rex entering the sealed room.) The building of your community level could be considered quite tedious to someone who wishes to just move on, and that would dock it down a point or two for those of us who don't either have time or interest in the vast back story of this game or its ties to the Xeno series. Torna only takes 30-40 hours to complete, and I've done everything in it within the 45 hour mark. Contrast that to XC2, and it is a laughable amount of time (I'm at over 350 hours in, and I still don't have KOS-MOS or Akkos...).
As for the story, I knew the Greek tragedy would end this way, but the way it was done! So much was said without much dialog. I don't want to get into spoilers territory, but to tell the truth...
I thought I was prepared for the ending.
I wasn't.
After finishing the game, I have found myself watching the cut scenes from both Torna and XC2 to fit the story together in a way that is clearer for my brain. I kept on going back and forth to Gormott to see where the graveyard is, and once I discovered where it is in Rex's time, I couldn't help but smile. What wonderful little tidbits exist that I just rushed through to complete some side quest! I don't know if there is going to be more, but I can't stop thinking about the story. I would gladly pay more money to continue in this vast world created for the fans. Well done, Monolith. Well done.

Just finished Far Cry Instincts' campaign for the Original Xbox the other day and boy was I appalled by how disgustingly casualized the experience was. Ubisoft Montreal went way overboard in casualizing the absolute fuck out of the gameplay when remaking Far Cry. I've never played another FPS with this level of hand holding. Let me break it down:
-Huge circular crosshairs for all weapons -heat-seeking bullets (even if the rim of your crosshair just barely overlaps your target, your bullets automatically veer sideways and hit them with 100% accuracy) -regenerating health despite the fact that there are an abundant amount of medkits throughout the levels. -Garbage AI with semi-catatonic enemies -Enemy fire does little damage in 80% of the campaign -No adjustable difficultly level
It's an absolute disgrace to the challenging and tactical nature of Far Cry PC and the gunplay in Instincts gives a bad name to console shooters in general as well. Then there are all the other predictably dumbed-down elements like the graphics and especially the vehicle physics, as well as some bizarre omissions like the inability to adjust audio settings and the aforementioned lack of multiple difficulty settings and no way to turn off that damned auto-aim or aim-assist.
It's a shame because I wasn't expecting the campaign to be any good but I was expecting the gameplay to be great. The fact that the gunplay is so bad hurts the multiplayer aspect of the game too, so even with the customizable skins, full local multiplayer support and awesome map editor I'm not sure it's worth picking up over far better shooters on the system like Halo CE.
I give Far Cry Instincts a generous 7/10. It's a fun but mindless shooter that is severely held bad by some really bad design decisions. I much prefer Far Cry 2004 on PC, and I am SO glad Ubisoft Montreal didn't model Far Cry 2's gameplay on Instincts'.

Beat the original Sonic the Hedgehog on Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube today for what might be the first time? It's been ages since I had played the game and I don't remember if I had ever beaten it before. Anyway, it pretty much was exactly how I remembered it: bright, colorful, visually interesting and has an excellent soundtrack, but also has some tedious level design (namely marble zone and labirynth zone) and isn't as fast or as exciting as its sequels on Genesis. One thing I never realized is how short the original Sonic is. It only has six levels.
Great for it's time but outclassed by 2, CD and 3. 3/5.

I also want to comment quickly on Capcom Vs SNK 2 EO, which I recently played a bit a couple days ago. After playing threw the arcade mode a few times, I noticed that the animations and quality of the ending cinematic left much to be desired (I've heard that Capcom had to cut out a bunch of frames of character animations to compensate for the GC's smaller discs), but it's still a good port of a great game. My biggest gripe is that there is NO ART GALLERY!! WTF?? That omission alone almost ruins the game for me, since it features a ton of fresh, high-quality character portraits that beg to be contemplated in their entirety.
Oh well. Still a 4/5 game.

Beat DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil for the original Xbox last night. This is a big deal for me since I had never played DOOM 3 or its expansion until now. Despite being a console port of a 2004 engine game, it still ranks among the most visually impressive games I have played as of now in 2020, which is quite an achievement. The use of pixel shader technology is absolutely amazing for a 2004 engine; ID Software somehow turned something as mundane as lighting up a dark corner of a room with your flashlight into visual AMSR therapy. The lighting in DOOM 3 looks that good! And that's just the tip of the iceberg with DOOM 3's graphics; the enemy models, enemy animations, gun models, gun animations, environmental design/detail, etc. are all absolutely first-rate outstanding. The zombie animations in DOOM 3 are so much more detailed and varied than even Half Life 2, and that's just one tiny little pie-slice comparison between DOOM 3 and what was regarded as the other most technically impressive AAA title of 2004. On top of that, DOOM 3's audio design is candy to my ears.
The updates to the gameplay of DOOM 3, such as reloading and the flashlight, put it up to speed with the majority of FPS coming out by 2004 and were a very welcome and much-needed change, since the first two DOOM titles feel very simplistic in regards to the gun play nowadays.
Resurrection of Evil is far from a perfect game, however. The level design in the pre-hell levels (i.e. 90% of the game) was straight corridor-shooter garbage, and the story didn't pay off at all. It's somewhat short, too, although it does pack a challenge if you don't use the artifact, which is how I recommend playing it.
Overall, while I probably won't be revisiting Resurrection of Evil as often as my other FPS from around that time period, it was still a nice expansion to DOOM III made even better on the Xbox by the addition of DOOM 1 & 2. For that reason I give this version a solid 8/10 or 4/5. It's a fine addition to any Xbox enthusiast's collection.
