Had a movie night yesterday, watched the Snoopy movie (2015), Cabin in the Woods (2012), Cube (1997) and Cube 2 Hypercube (2002).
The Snoopy movie wasn't all that great, while excellently animated (Blue Sky delivers, as always) I didn't care for the characters and the plot was clichéd and unoriginal. My favorite parts were Snoopy's daydream segments, and that really says it all. It should be noted I wasn't watching this as a long time fan of the Snoopy franchise and I had little knowledge about the characters and such before watching this, and as a lot of the things that happened felt like fanservice it failed to service me as a newcomer. I'd like to hear what long time Snoopy fans have to say, if there are any on this forum. Were you excited for this movie? Did you see it in the cinema? As a long time fan, did you enjoy it? Did you get and/or enjoy all the references/fan service I probably missed or found odd/out of place? 3/5
Cabin in the Woods was a fun horror/horror parody/horror satire type movie and I mostly enjoyed it. The horror elements felt a bit weak but the satire and humor was good and I got some good laughs out of it. The ending is quite over the top and I really love it. I had seen the ending part before, but without the rest of the movie leading up to it I couldn't really say much about what I had just seen at the time, it looked interesting and I wanted to see the full thing, and now I finally have, so that's good. 4/5
The Cube series was recommended to me by a friend many years ago but I've had problems finding copies to buy until recently, strangely I didn't get the local releases, they were second-hand and from Canada, so I couldn't play them on my TV as none of my DVD playing consoles support playback from that region, so I either had to watch them on PC or dig out of my old standalone DVD player. I opted for PC as I have no idea where my old DVD player is atm. It was a pretty good horror movie though, I liked many things in it, with the mechanical idea of the structure of the cube itself being very interesting but the characters and script being quite poor overall. Also, very lackluster ending, it felt like there should've been at least another 5-10 minutes of movie showing what happened after that, giving an actual conclusion to it all. The whole "mysterious" ending is very hard to pull off correctly and I felt this movie failed to do so, it didn't feel mysterious as much as lazy and badly executed. 4/5
Cube 2 Hypercube Seemingly detached from the first acting more like a standalone movie with only subtle hints toward the original, more or less like a spiritual successor, I liked it a lot more overall. Sadly it suffered from some of the same problems, especially the ending, with background info being virtually nonexistent, making it feel lazy and poorly executed more than mysterious yet again. I did however feel the characters were a bit better this time around and their actions fit the situation slightly better, for the most part at least. The Cube itself was similar yet wildly different and I enjoyed the idea of this cube better than the first, even if I liked the visual style ever so slightly more in the original. 4/5

Had to cleanse myself from Fury Road so I watched Zombie Nation (2004), a typical case of so bad it's good. B-Movie 4/5

The night ended well after all, after the atrocity that is Fury Road and the so bad it was good Zombie Nation I tried finding some other movies that looked promising, like The Amazing Bulk and Transmorphers, but with no luck, finally I found a movie I wanted to see, Alienator (1990).
A female space terminator gets sent to find and kill a space criminal, Kol, who crashlands on earth after having escaped his execution from a prison spaceship. The "alienator" runs amok, disturbing all kinds of electrical equipment and killing everyone in it's path while Kol convinces a group of people to help him with a sob story that he's a good guy on the run from an alien monster robot sent by evil aliens who destroyed his home planet and was going to torture and kill him. The alienator herself is a large cyborg amazon with long white hair, robotic bikini armor and a huge laser blaster mounted on her right arm. I had never heard of this movie before so this was a true hidden gem. I'm glad I got to see it. 5/5

I like the original, it's a little crude but still good, I love Road Warrior though and Beyond Thunderdome is my favorite. They are my kind of movies, just like Waterworld, I love a good post-apocalyptic setting with good characters and story set in it.

Fury Road > Road Warrior > Mad Max > Thunderdome They're flawless, hence replace Fury Road with Thunderdome and vice versa in that line to get the correct order of best to worst.
