Cervantes Absolutely. But I'm going to wait a little while longer. Then these launch games will be cheaper and the library will be bigger. How about you?

Dan E. Kool I might get one down the line, but I'll certainly wait until it has a sizeable library. Considering my huge backlog, I'm no rush to get another console right now. But damn, Zelda does look impressive.

Like someone said before. The NS is not just a portable system, it is to home consoles the equivalent to what laptops are to desktops. They are truly reinventing the market. The NS already has the biggest North American console launch ever, even surpassing the Wii launch. That is insane.

But damn, Zelda does look impressive. I usually buy consoles close to launch, but unfortunately I'm a little short on cash right now. Anyway, I think waiting is probably better. The consoles and games drop in price and sometimes even improve (get smaller, include DLC, etc).

Really don't want to poop on this thing but my god, I did a tally of all the stuff I might want and it's almost $1000 bucks in my country for somewhat necessary accessories and 3 games plus 1 amiboo. (pro controller, battery pack, usb c to c wire, 128gb micro sd, stand, carry case, screen protector, joy joy skins)
edit: forgot the extra dock I'd be wanting for my bedroom. That's another $80 and 4 more sailors I have to please in a back alley)
editx2: ok ok 8 more sailors

editx2: ok ok 8 more sailors Yeah, this hobbie is pricey. What I do I buy stuff separately and it doesn't hurt that much. You end up spending as much, maybe even more, but you don't feel it that way For example I bought 2 PS Move controllers back on 2014 I think, $50 each, then I bought the new PS Camera last August for $60. In November I bought my PS VR unit for $400, and just a week ago I bought a PS4 Pro for $400. All those things with high California tax. Not to mention all the PS VR games I had been buying that definitely amount to over $500. Separately it doesn't feel like much but once I think about it, it hurts. Specially if I start counting my TV that I got just for my room so I can game. Gaming is no cheap, and if everyone else does it I'm sure Nintendo won't try to be the exception.

I haven't been interested in Nintendo products since the Gamecube, and that's a trend that's likely not going to change. The reason I didn't show up here willingly is because I don't really have anything nice to say about modern Nintendo and their new console, so I chose to say nothing at all. Sorry but that's just how I feel.

So I ended up getting a Switch and Zelda after all. There's a buy and sell website popular in Canada called Kijiji. Sort of similar to Craigslist in purpose, though owned by eBay, etc.
I usually keep an eye on it for game deals. As expected, following the Switch launch, that section of the website was largely dominated by scalpers. However, after a week, a few people had either finished as much as they wanted to in Zelda, or buyer's remorse set in, and I managed to snag one, along with Breath of the Wild for $100 (Canadian) less than retail.
I have to say...I'm really liking it. You can go elsewhere for more in depth reviews, but I'm enjoying my time with the console. It is smaller, but heavier than the Wii U gamepad, which makes sense. It find myself thinking of it more as a handheld with TV capability than as a console you can take with you. In that sense, it seems more like a follow up to the Vita than to the 3DS. It feels like a substantial attempt to bring console-level gaming on a handheld.
Granted, Nintendo had done quite a bit with playing handheld games on the television before (Super Game Boy 1 and 2, the Game Boy Advance adapter for the Gamecube, etc). That seemed to have fallen by the wayside with the DS/3DS for obvious reasons. I guess you could say that the Wii U did a little of that with GBA/DS games on the Virtual console, but it seemed like in the last few generations, that connectivity was something that the PSP did better. I really wish that the Vita had gone with the planned HDMI out instead of the PSTV, but I enjoyed aspects of that as well. But yeah, the Switch seems like more of a descendant of that line of thinking.
The Joy-Cons, when attached to the console, feel like a better version of the 3DS controls. Buttons and sticks are similar sizes, though proper analog sticks instead of the 3DS pad are very nice. Even the four buttons on the left stick seem like they'd be decent for a 2D platformer, if not ideal. They feel a little closer to a Sony d-pad than a Nintendo one when viewed that way. Used separate from the console, I've tested them undocked, which is pretty comfortable. It reminds me a bit of being able to lounge in any position when I first played Twilight Princess with the Wii remote, ect. Surprisingly comfortable. When docked to the grip, they function as an adequate console-controller for something with portable-size buttons and sticks, but I'll be keeping my eye out for a Pro controller at a good price. (I suspect for multiplayer games, I'll often have to be the good host and use the joy-cons while yielding pro controller to guests).
I can't really speak to the joy-cons in 'individual tiny controller' mode yet. I've only played a bit of 1-2 Switch on someone else's unit. Seems like a fun party game and tech demo, but I don't think I'll be buying it. Of the current launch lineup, I'm interested in Snipper Clips and Blaster Master Zero, so maybe I'll get to see what they're like then.
As for Breath of the Wild, I'll comment in more detail on that thread, but I'm definitely enjoying it. Easy to see why it is a system seller.

Imperial Khador - A Vita with HDMI out would've really beaten Nintendo to the punch. Maybe the Vita wouldn't have failed so hard saleswise if they went with that plan.

I've had the Switch for two weeks now and am liking, agreed with everything Khador had to say about it although I've still been mostly playing it as a console. The joycons are more comfortable than I would've thought given how small they are but my favorite control method is the pro controller. Pro controller is nice and comfortable and kinda expensive, but the 40 hour battery life makes up for it. I wish it had analog triggers and a headphone jack though. Breath of the Wild is great and I beat it a few days ago, although it's more a 9 for me than a 10. The other games I have with it are Super Bomberman R, Fast RMX, and Blaster Master Zero.
