The backwards compatibility was, for me, the only redeeming factor of the Wii (along with the good build quality too I suppose). I love not having to own a Gamecube to play all of my beloved Gamecube games. In fact, without backwards compatibility, there would literally be no reason for me to own one.
Some GC titles that I love:
-MELEE
-LoZ Collector's Disc (expensive as hell and hard to acquire, but totally worth it if you can't stand putting up with N64 controller or don't own an N64. The emulated versions of OoT and MM also run at a higher resolution. The only downside to the Collector's Disc is that the emulation for Majora's Mask is unfortunately really screwed up, and as a result the game freezes often, which used to piss me off so much as a kid, since I didn't own the actual cartridge until much later)
-Pikmin (I wouldn't bother with Pikmin 2 because it's so expensive and not quite as good as 1)
-Goldeneye Rogue Agent (if you own an Xbox, get that version instead; it's cheaper and better than the other 2 ports)
-Mario Sunshine
-Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
-Sonic Mega Collection
-Viewtiful Joe
Some GC titles that I like:
-Metroid Prime 1 & 2
-Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 Rogue Leader
-Soul Calibur 2 (I actually love this game, but I'm just not very good at it...)
-F-zero GX (good game but my favorite is still X on N64)
There are other amazing GC titles that I didn't mention like Ikaruga and Fire Emblem Path of Radiance because of how expensive they are

Mario Sunshine, Metroid Primes, Melee, Pikmin...got it. Did the gc have its own Starfox game?
Depending on price and availability, it might be better value to buy a 3ds with the ports.
Sonic Adventure 2? I refuse! I have it for my DC and Sonic Collection for the PS2.
Didn't the GC have a horror game that messed with you, like threatening to delete your save file?

Assault had a terrible (and terribly short) single player mode with little replay value that wasn't even in the same style as 64's, and Adventures was just an anthropomorphic Zelda clone, minus the fun. How could Nintendo fuck up a sequel to Star Fox 64 so badly? They were definitely among the most disappointing games to hit the 'Cube IMO, and were one of the lowpoints of the system. |
