I was skeptical of VR back in 2014 but now I'm sure it'll be more than just a fad. It's both an exciting and worrying prospect for me, since I think it's interesting and I'd like to see it get it's own market, but I don't want it to shake up the industry to the point where everything revolves around VR. I'm not sure VR will every be anywhere more than the medium between fad and household norm (you could call it a "household fad"). The point of video games is that they be inviting to all ages and creeds (Tommy Tallarico does a nice piece on this w/ Victor Lucas); VR isolates too many outside of the "hardcore gamer" fanbase to ever fully take off. As long as it takes the Resident Evil VII approach where VR is the option and not the default, I don't think "we casuals" (aka broke a$$ middle class) have much to fear.

Good to see you back again my friend. And yea, VR is destined to be niche because most people people gravitate to relaxing with a controller where all you move are your eyes and fingers, and a burdensome VR headset is and forever will be more work than play - until the day when you can jack your brain right into the virtual world and not have to move your physical body at all that is...
According to the E3 subreddit, Sony was pretty bad. Didn't we say this? Not only the presentation was bad in comparison to other years, even Xbox with worse exclusives had a much better presentation than PlayStation this time around. That said, they definitely brought the goods. I was surprised as I was not expecting anything from them after seeing all the other good stuff from other presentations. Heh, it takes quite some time for information to sink in for some people doesn't it? Xbox played a good show, but was of little real substance. Their same old first party lineup -Halo, Gears, Forza, Crackdown- made appearences but the more notable pair (Halo, Gears) made no promises on release dates. And make no mistake, Halo Infinite is not Halo 6 - If it were 6, they would say so - it's very likely some spinoff game, and what's more, word out is that it is likely a ways off next gen title. Their whole strategy revolved around showing the mulltiplats before PlayStation - which sort of worked for the uninitialted. They were up first and they took full advantage of it, that's all there is to it. My favorite ranter of truth. Anyone who disagrees is in denial.

Today we heard about Xenoblade 2 DLC! No one was surprised, but the extent of it is more than the fans could ask for. That alone made me happy today. Fire Emblem and Octopath traveler rounded out the RPGs today, and now I don't know where I'm going to get time to play any of these games... Super Mario Party looks like they may be headed back to the original format, although they didn't mention online play yet. (The lack of online play ruined the Wii U game sales potential.) I liked the potential of Daemon X Machina. The trailer was pretty darn cool, if you ask me. All in all, it looks like I have a lot of gaming to do in the near future. Heck, they didn't even talk about Metroid Prime 4.

If you call handhelds niche then I guess VR will be niche too. Once people can experience how you can actually perceive computer generated textures as if they were real life upclose with your eyeballs, when they feel that they are actually there and that they can see the scale of those places without the screen-door effect people will understand why this is just not a temporary thing. That said, as I mentioned before, it will be there as an option that is really cool to use particularly for solo experiences or online multiplayer. It won't be the default way to play, so you guys definitively don't need to worry about that. For local multiplayer, which is the king of fun, VR will definitely never be as good as something like augmented reality, that's just a fact.

So what did you guys think? After every conference, there were plenty of "response" videos, and as I said last year, there are a ton of people talking about what "a let down E3 was." Are gamers getting spoiled, so they demand too much? Or are they right about the let down? I honestly think that every company had great projects in the making. Perhaps their delivery wasn't the greatest, but everything can't be Citizen Kane. (That's an overrated movie. Let's try that again.) Not everything can be Commando.

So what did you guys think? For me particularly: 1. Nintendo 10/10That Smash game is basically a dream come true for all fans. Enough said. 2. Xbox 9.5/10Devil May Cry 5 and Sekiro look simply amazing, and the whole Xbox presentation was very professional. 3. Sony 9.0/10Sony presentation was like a 5.0/10 at best if not less, but they are giving me Nioh 2 and the Remake of Resident Evil 2, that is enough for me to forgive them. I'm also excited to play a brand new VR titled from Japan Studio and FromSoftware, which are two of the best developers in the industry. Death Stranding still looks interesting and Spide-Man is looking very good with all those Sonic The Hedgehog inspired sequences. Tetris Effect and Beat Saber look super fun too. 4. Bethesda 8.5/10I simply love we are getting a new Doom (Eternal), and that Wolfenstein will have a VR titled (Cyberpilot). Bethesda single player experiences are always excellent. I'm also exciting that an online massive multiplayer such as The Elder Scrolls will be fully playable on VR (Blades). VR fixes everything for me, even MMOs. Not to mention how exciting were those new gen teases they showed. 5. Square Enix 8.0/10Babylon's Fall looks great, but I still want to know more about it. I particularly love we are getting a new Tomb Raider and a new Just Cause, those games are a lot of fun. 6. Ubisoft 7.5/10I like Ubisoft light hearted presentation, but only Assassin's Creed called my attention, and not by much. Although that Elijah Wood VR game may be interesting. Other than that they didn't have anything else for me. 7. EA 5.0/10I give a lot of credit to EA for coming forward in front of everyone and apologizing for their mistakes. I'm glad they fixed Battlefront 2, but I'm still feeling disappointed for them closing Visceral which was their best studio. It is also important to mention that the PC presentation was basically all Sega. They are bringing all these titles to PC: - Shenmu 1 & 2 - Shining Resonance Refrain - Valkyria Chronicles 4 - Yakuza 0 - Yakuza Kiwami All with 4K resolution and uncapped frame rate. There are other trailers presented during E3 that looked great too, such as the new one for Ace Combat 7, Code Vein, and Dead Or Alive 6.

A lot of money is going into that game with little to nothing to show for it as of late. It isn't my favorite Final Fantasy (My avatar proves that.), but it would be a lot of fun to play it with a modern gameplay twist.

I was laughing out loud of this .gif, but it is quite accurate for many Smash fans. The new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate details revealed are what a lot of people have been dreaming for so many years, almost two decades, it is definitely the biggest crossover in gaming history as Sakurai said, and it is finally here. It is so crazy to realize that game is actually official. No mods or anything. It is coming like that straight out of the box.

stratogustav SSB Ultimate is anything but a dream come true for Melee players. Us Melee players will continue to support the latest fan mods for Brawl like Project M and Legacy XP, which are true to Melee's gameplay, rather than throw money at Nintendo's latest casualized crap like sheepish retards. Nintendo doesn't deserve our time or money.

Well, if you haven't been playing Nintendo games since the GameCube all the way to Breath Of The Wild I can see you wouldn't understand how huge this is. I personally love that analog controls will be present which is why GameCube controllers will be compatible, that characters will be able to air dodge diagonally into the ground, and the aerials can get cancelled at double speed, not to mention the ability to link combos in a particular way for every single character unique characteristics with multiples. On top of that every single character that has already been present in previous games will be present. Every single one.

On top of that every single character that has already been present in previous games will be present. Every single one. I watched the whole video. I can safely say you don't understand what makes Melee great. Melee was never about quantity of content. It was about making the fighting mechanics great. This is why Melee remains so legendary within the fighting game community today. Bringing back wave dashing in nerfed form won't make the game competitive, since wave dashing was never a primary technique in competitive Melee for most characters. Hardcore fighting game fans are still going to prefer Melee in the end of the day based on what I've seen in this video. It enrages me when people treat Melee like Brawl, Smash 4 and this new game. This shit should never be compared to Melee. And here I thought you were one of the few on this board who understood fighting games.
