stratogustav SSB Ultimate is anything but a dream come true for Melee players. Us Melee players will continue to support the latest fan mods for Brawl like Project M and Legacy XP, which are true to Melee's gameplay, rather than throw money at Nintendo's latest casualized crap like sheepish retards. Nintendo doesn't deserve our time or money. Have you seen the details? They are insane. I personally love that.... characters will be able to air dodge diagonally into the ground, and the aerials can get cancelled at double speed, 1: Wave dashing was introduced in Melee, and was far superior in Melee, it even said in the video that they are weakening it. Have you played Melee? 2: That video didn't mention anything about aerials getting canceled faster. Unless I missed something?

I watched the whole video. I can safely say you don't understand what makes Melee great. Melee was never about quantity of content. It was about making the fighting mechanics great. This is why Melee remains so legendary within the fighting game community today. Bringing back wave dashing in nerfed form won't make the game competitive, since wave dashing was never a primary technique in competitive Melee for most characters. Hardcore fighting game fans are still going to prefer Melee in the end of the day based on what I've seen in this video. It enrages me when people treat Melee like Brawl, Smash 4 and this new game. This shit should never be compared to Melee. And here I thought you were one of the few on this board who understood fighting games. Dude, it has wave dashing. Nerfed or not. Aerials cancels are double what they were on the Wii U unless my eyeballs are lying to me. Did you even played Smash 4? It sounds like you actually don't care if every single mechanic of Melee was present one way or another, that you only like Melee for nostalgic reasons and not because of the characters and the gameplay mechanics. That said, the mechanics Sakurai is introducing and the ones he is bringing back are nothing but competitive, I don't know what they put in his food because I recall him saying he didn't want to go this route, yet he is doing it, he also said he wasn't going to make another game and here it is. My assumption is that the Yakuza is behind all of this and he has a gun pointed at him at all times.

What I want to know is... Where is the Saga trilogy remaster ?!? I believe it is in the making. However, aren't there licensing hoops they have to jump through to get this made? Maybe if Nintendo was publishing it, but shouldn't be an issue if it were BandaiNamco themselves since they published it in the day. It would almost be like Konami having to ask Sony for permission to republish Metal Gear games because Kojima is working for them now... (well, maybe not quite like that since the current Kojima Productions over at Sony aren't the same as what was under Konami in the day, but still)Although... all the same Monolithsoft is currently owned by Nintendo so I suppose it's entirely conceivable that some inter-publisher negotiating could be in order.

L-canceling alone is what made the first two games so damn rewarding and deep on a competitive level. I HATE this amount of hand-holding Nintendo is putting into the series. I wouldn't be so mad if Nintendo hadn't canceled their plans to release Gamecube games (including Melee) for the Switch. It's not fair that the new generation of Nintendo fans can't experience Melee for themselves. Ultimate is no replacement for Melee.

Autocanceling is part of what ruins the challenge of the newer games. Autocanceling is what eliminates all the input tax, and like I said, the landing is double the speed of Smash 4, I rather have that.

But regardless, I think everyone deserves to have easy access to Melee. I can't believe it's never been re-released (it's the GC's best selling game after all). A lot of people are also likewise begging for other GC exclusives like Paper Mario TTYD to be released on the Switch.

Actually, I might need to correct you; auto-canceling (and L-canceling) reduce landing lag animations, and have no affect on move inputs.

That's exactly the problem with l-canceling, people deny the fact that any worthiness it has is invalidated by its massive input tax. The only reason why people like it is because they like pressing more buttons. The same thing goes with having to jump and airdodge in order to wavedash, or jump-cancel grabs. It serves no practical purpose when all that stuff can be used with a single input.

Sorry I had to correct you on that. That said, I see your point, but casualization is definitively not a deal breaker for me as long as the mechanics are there. That's why I never criticized Arc System Works with what they did with Dragon Ball FighterZ. The inputs are casual as fuck, but unless you have a deep understanding of the game you will still get demolished. I'm liking all the competitive mechanics added to the new Smash game. I love how dodging now scales, so each new dodge gives you more vulnerability. That's the kind of challenge I'm down for.

Melee is a fine game, but I like Brawl better, and the new one looks even more promising than Brawl. By the way, I'm liking what I'm seeing of Team Sonic Racing. Those British guys have been taking a good care of this spin-off series.

Anyone who likes Brawl more than Melee clearly isn't into the competitive scene. Christ, I'm so sick of arguing about this only to find out afterwards that the person I'm debating with doesn't even play Melee.

Sorry to disappoint you friend. I still think Melee is a good game. I would buy it immediately if they would port it. Brawl is better though. Like I said, casualization has never been a problem with Smash games, and it doesn't make them less competitive. People just gets obsessed over the most trivial things, and it is totally fine. We can all agree that just because you like Melee doesn't mean you like Smash, and just because you like the series in general it doesn't mean you don't like Melee. That's just common sense.

Brawl is a broken mess for competitive play, though. In Brawl the gameplay is much slower, the character roaster is extremely unbalanced, combos are non-existent due to hitstun canceling, addition of tripping...what kind of idiot would play this crap seriously? It's a party game through and through. I'd expect someone with an SNK avatar to have better taste in fighting games, not that Brawl can really be considered one.
