This morning on You Tube, Atari Age posted quite a few new homebrew videos. I'm really impressed with what I have seen so far. Any of you interested?
For the Atari 2600:
I'm really impressed with this one.
This game is a Zelda clone which was made originally for the Gameboy Advanced. I find the retrograde interesting, to say the least, but games like this need music.
Drive, has one kick ass opening song.
This one is creepy, yet interesting.
This one looks awesome. I'm impressed with the coding for this game.

Finally, there were two 7800 games released. If you like the music though, a POKEY chip has to be provided. scipioafricanus, I know you wish you had these when your Dad bought you this system oh so long ago...

Most stuff for the Atari consoles that wasn't ported is usually really good. Atari was bad when you played ports, but the stuff that was made with the hardware in mind was a different story.
You also have to remember that later stuff in a console cycle is usually rendered better. Think Uncharted 1 Vs. Uncharted 3 for example. Developers usually don't find the hardware potential until later on.
Homebrews are made years later when the hardware has already being figured out, and as a consequence they have the potential to show the best the system can offer.
You really can't go wrong with homebrews. Just like with the Vectrex, I count the Atari posthumous games as legit part of the library.

stratogustav it's important to differentiate between homebrews and official games for Atari 2600 because a lot of the homebrews uses extra RAM in the cartridge itself, which makes it an unfair comparison in some cases. It's definitely true that the developers became better through the years like with Uncharted, but some of the programmers at AtariAge has better hardware.

I'm not comparing original games, I was talking about ports. What matters is the game design anyway. Having extra power won't make a difference for a bad game. There are certain gameplay expectations that only came about after the NES introduced the pad and could benefit even the old achool Atari joystick. That improvement is definitely welcomed.

I'm not saying it's an excuse for good games. I'm simply saying that adding music to a homebrew adds to an already awesome game that would perhaps been impossible on an old game released on an original cartridge.

Not many of the new games really are enhanced by extra RAM. Don't forget about Pac-Man 4K! Also, Juno First (like most of the new games) have only 32 K of RAM. It isn't like they are fitting an FX chip on there...

Or did she just price the 7800 at the Electric Avenue in Montgomery Wards? (By the way, that was the only place that I ever saw a CD-i at.)

A new Jaguar game! Well how about that? I'm not a programmer, so I won't bash it, but this sort of looks like a flash game. It could be cool, though. I love the fact that the Jaguar community still makes games that aren't on the CD ROM (which is hard to find in working order).

The new 2600 homebrews are incredibly advanced. They are starting to remind me of 5200 games! This one looks really good:
This one seems to be full of variety. As a 2600 player, I'm not used to that.

If there would be a poll about what console has the coolest video game sound effects I would always say the 2600.
