Switch worries

The Switch is a very unique console. It is a console while also a handheld system with high tech motion controls, that also work as a regular pad, and have the most realistic vibration feedback.

In terms of power it is in a very special situation. It is not as powerful as the PS4 or the Xbox One, but it is a lot more powerful than the PS3 and the 360. The Wii U was already more powerful than the PS3 and the 360, and yet the Switch is more powerful than the Wii U. So in theory the Switch can definitely run games like Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain and Rise Of The Tomb Raider on the go, in that little thing, it is crazy how far we have gotten.

Now that said, as of right now the library does not feel like anything the other consoles offer. As always Nintendo is offering their own experience that no one else have.

In a way the small library feels very like the old days. Super Bomberman R, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Sonic Mania, Ultra Street Fighter II, Fast RMX, Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Blaster Master Zero, are all very compelling games that make me feel really satisfied with how the system is building up.

Of course you get your massive first party titles like The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild and the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey. It is also playing the PlayStation Greatness Awaits card with Metroid Prime 4 and the brand new cannon mainline Pokémon game.

No to mention the English port for Dragon Quest Heroes I - II, the new Fire Emblem Warriors, and another mainline Fire Emblem game, along with another mainline Shin Megami Tensei game. Square is also putting stuff like I Am Setsuna and Project Octopath Traveller. So it will also get a lot of RPG love.

The system is only in its first year and it already feels better in terms of exclusives than the PS4 ever felt. I think the PS4 only had Killzone and Knack, and that was it because The Order 1886 and Driveclub got delayed. The Order 1886 wasn't even worth it to wait for, it is just like an average game, and Driveclub had nothing less than a million patches in its first year because of the multiple bugs the game launched with. It was a real mess.

I love my PS4, but it definitely took a long time to get where is at right now. The Switch is looking very promising and already delivering. It is worth it for Zelda and Mario alone. Everything else is like a bonus extra plus.

Well, I'm not even going to compare the Switch to Ps4 and Xbone (a.k.a. X Bone One, just check E3) much because those make me feel this gen is a failure in the console market.
One of the problems I have with its library right now is that Fire Emblem Warriors, Shin Megami Tensei, Mario & Rabbids Kingdom BS and the unnamed Fire Emblem and Tales of games are literally the only good things I expect to be released next. Smash Bros and Mario Kart have been average at best, and Nintendo kinda already destroyed most of their series except for Fire Emblem and I guess Pikmin. Yes, I know this already sounds like more than what Sony and M$ have been doing.

As for a lot of games already released, with exception of ARMs I don't see much out there. BotW must be good, but contains a bunch of stuff I really dislike about game design; Mario 2006 Odyssey doesn't look good at all; and games like USF2 and the latest Bomberman look like steps-back, you know?

But I'll definitely report back from the weekend for what I find about the system and ARMs.

Mark's had some glowing praise for le Switch as of late. I'm not much crazy about the flagship titles either but if I were a bit more social about gaming, that thing would be a real crowdpleaser to bring along ala Pokken or Mario Kart. Really just waiting for a new F-Zero though.

But here's the thing, replying specially to Imperial Khador, the console is awesome! It' very hard to begin to be disappointed with it because it feels like the only smart videogame related hardware released since the Xbox. The screen size feels better in person, and if you don't like it, there's the option to use the TV screen anyway. The joycons are kind of a genius idea because of how versatile they are, but there is the problem that I don't get any D-pad because of it, so that means I don't really have a good way of playing 2D games that require too much precision as of now. The UI and the amount of options are excellent, and it's a far cry from how Sony handles theirs; I even went to the "News" section and enjoyed it because it's just more sanitized compared to how Sony handles their form of advertising in-console.
Probably the best part of the Switch for me is how it's easy to access options and whatever while a game is running, and how you don't need to stop everything you're doing like with the Ps3 when it comes to updates.

As for the games, so far I have Arms, Gunbarich (which everyone knows), and Kamiko.

- Arms is fucking amazing, and while I won't blame anyone for dismissing it for how stupid and whack it looks, it must be the only good competitive game to come from a Nintendo studio so far. I am impressed, but for those who don't enjoy fighting games this might be safe to skip. BUT IF YOU LIKE THEM, THO!...

- Gunbarich is Gunbarich, guys, what else? The bonus here is that you can finally play Gunbarich in a decently sized portable screen, just switch to portrait and there you go.

- As for Kamiko, it's a short, sweet indie game. It feels like buying 4 Legend of Zelda dungeons which you can play with 3 different weapons. Unfortunately, it plays too good for how long it is, finishing it with 1 character for the first time usually takes someone 1 hour, and the only type of score to track are finish times.

I'll give you something to worry about.




What better to go with Gunbarich?

That is a legit fightstick. It makes me happy because Ultra Street Fighter II truly deserves it. It is the official latest edition of a classic 26 years old game. That game, and all the Neo Geo fighters that are already there.
