So, the Switch got a few games here and there, but nothing Earth-shattering. I'm currently concerned because the Nintendo fanbase is trash, as another fellow user mentioned in another topic, and there's this likelihood of mediocre to bad games (such as FIFA) receiving special attention by Nintendo fans, just check out the Switch reddit. Well, I just hope the people who matter don't care about what the most vocal fans voice in the internet.
...
You know what? No! I also hope Bayonetta is coming to the Switch! That would be a big turn around in the mood for me.
EDIT: The Nintendo direct actually already happened. My "Switch worries" levels are through the roof now. I've never thought someone could do a 45 minute presentation with so much nothing in it.

It's definitely cool to know that the Switch will get at least one competent first-person shooter, but that shooter is Doom, and this is a world with both Borderlands AND Shadow Warrior... Doom has a big name, but that's not usually what matters to me.
I haven't been following Xenoblade Chronicles 2, so I didn't know anything about it before the stream, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the visuals... Except that unless I'm missing something, the playable cast looks repulsive. The character design for all the playable characters shown in the trailer - except the white animal friend - is atrocious. There's just no way around it, I don't think I have ever seen a worse character design in an A game before. And then it doesn't help that apparently the gameplay can only be "felt", so a video would never make it justice.
Despite how previous Super Mario [something] games have been at least good, I'm not going to expect much out of Odyssey. Something about it just looks off.
Octopath Traveler may have been the only good surprise there, but even after playing the demo I can't tell if it will head in an interesting direction.
And Lyn in Fire Emblem Warriors is just miserable.
One issue I'm feeling right now is that the Ps4 got that one exclusive game that justified people's purchases rather early, even if it was a single game in a sea of whatever. The Switch may not get that game this year yet.
But overall I'm glad this Nintendo Direct happened after I got a Switch.

spidershinobi There's also Wolfenstein. But I can tell you're already regretting getting the Switch as a gift, so I took the liberty of PM'ing my address to you. Just ship it over at your next convenience.

I had a WiiU almost two years ago, sold it within 2 months. Only played Bayonetta 2 Tag Climax on the thing. I think nintendo's consoles are not a good option these days, an age where you can game on pretty much everything, for a fraction of the price of nintendo's bad, yet relatively expensive hardware. Fortunately, i had bought the WiiU used, and only lost 20$ on the resale. At least something good came out of it. As for the switch, it doesn't look good for its future, its selling ok, but this is how it goes for nintendo consoles, they sell ok in their honeymoon phase, then it drops drastically. Most 3rd party developers are ignoring the console, most big name games are skipping the console, getting old ports from last year and before is a deja vu of the WiiU. I feel sorry for you, spidershinobi

As for the switch, it doesn't look good for its future, its selling ok... It's doing better than OK. The Nintendo Switch video game console bested its rivals, Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4, to be the top selling console in August, according to new sales estimates from the NPD Group. [...]Nintendo's hybrid gaming system—it's part-handheld, part-home console, hence the name—has topped the charts in four of the last six months since its launch in March 2017, NPD Group says. The two months it missed the mark, the PlayStation 4 won out. Once the price comes down to handheld levels, I think we're going to see Nintendo with a massive hit on their hands.

If I am disappointed, I will let you know.

I started a thread in the Nintendo section, but I just thought I'd mention that I quite liked the Project Octopath Traveler demo that came out earlier this week. Seems like it will be a treat for SNES/PSX area JRPG fans.

It's doing better than OK. Once the price comes down to handheld levels, I think we're going to see Nintendo with a massive hit on their hands. What about Worldwide? Oy vey! Here's an article on Switch sales in Japan. What with the news that the Nintendo Switch has sold over 1.5 million units in Japan since its release in March, the way in which it is selling will likely mean it will end up as the next major console in the region. The sales data itself covers the first 26 weeks of each console’s lifespan and is going the rounds on places like 2ch in Japan, although the data itself originates from Media Create. In short, during the first 26 weeks on sale, the PS4 managed to sell 665,760 units, whereas the Switch sold 1,527,962 units. To add insult to injury, it took the PS4 a total of 69 weeks for it to sell 1,523,471 units in Japan. So whichever way you look at it, the Switch is doing incredibly well here. But if you have data that says otherwise, feel free to share.

I don't "regret" owning a Switch, but the library is really bad. Nintendo fans often have this stance of holding every N-exclusive game in high regard, so the hype for games that are either too niche (like Xenoblade Chronicles) or not good enough for anything tends to remain super high in comparison to what it would have been if the same game had been announced for any other platform instead. Because of that most of what Nintendo has had to say these past months has had a negative effect on me, and overall I feel that this is very close to Nintendo's vision handling the Ps4, although that one doesn't have much going for it in terms of hardware.
About Octopath Traveler, I suppose people who specifically enjoy Final Fantasy games will like that one, but that's about it. Btw they sent surveys to people who played the demo, so make sure you answer it!
Now, there is one hidden positive in the Fire Emblem Warriors trailer. Despite the retarded inclusion of Lyn in the roster for all the huge crybaby elitists, people spotted a character who hasn't been leaked or commented on behind a more relevant character, so that may mean the roster won't be that restricted.

I almost feel like owning one for the novelty sake as well as the chance to experience the evolution of Nintendo's franchises. Near endless Zelda and Mario sounds like it could be such a treat.
I haven't played any Xeno games and although I was unpleasantly surprised by how cartoonish the characters looked in the trailer, the environments were breathtaking.
The major issue -- and even though it's not really an issue -- is that the PS4 kicks so much ass. There is such an expansive array of great games to play and even if there weren't, I could always resort to the PSN service.
Compared with the fact that Microsoft has monopolized the FPS market, Nintendo will have a hard time standing up to their competitors especially when the technical quality of their games has reached such new, high plateaus and that the price range practically has to remain at a 60 dollar range per game. Within my own PS4 library, I haven't spent more than 30 dollars on any game and I'm nearing about 30 games in total.
