If you have an original Wii with a good collection of games downloaded, in a way you can make your mind to think of that Wii as your own physical copy of those games. After all they were obtained licensed and legally. Until your Wii or Wii U dies and all your games are gone along with it. I still need to look at the store one last time before Wii points are no longer purchasable and remind myself if there is anything else I want. Discs don't last forever, either, though. So long as your Wii holds its memory, there are enough of them out there that if something fails, it could be replaced and fixed. Not so much with the Wii U (but there's still something like 15 million of them).

Until your Wii or Wii U dies and all your games are gone along with it. At that point most other Wii consoles will probably be in the same shape and my physical copies will be useless unless they have something like the RetroN 5. I guess my discs will eventually face the same fate. Like Dan said, nothing lasts forever, that is for sure. Talking about physical copies, at least for Nintendo consoles most games are almost at 100% at the day of release, if not 100%. Specially for Wii and Wii U. I know that is changing, but it still holds a lot better than on other contemporary systems. My PS3 and specially PS4 games on the other hand are like at 50%, sometimes 10%. For example my copy of Street Fighter V, what the game is today with all the updates, and what the game was without them are complete different worlds. Many day 1 patches are often larger than the games themselves. Unless you are in the market for Ultimate Editions or Game Of The Year Editions only, you are not getting a playable physical game. Those get also patched, but nothing crazy, they are more like what a Nintendo game normally is.

In the past it was a good strategy to buy your games later, second hand, for cheap. But modern games might not be worth buying after all those networks are long offline and the patches are no longer available. Especially with day one patches. We have no clue what state those games are really in. I might need to rethink how I go about getting my PS4 collection together...

As a matter of fact, I have never had a system die on me, and I still fire up an Atari 2600 every now and then. What have you had die on you Pimpjira ? Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox 360. Also PS3 if you count disc drive crapping out but I don't because that wouldn't affect digital stuff. And I'm not against digital if that post made it sound like it.

I didn't really feel like there was any rush, but now I think it'll have to be soon. It came out when? 2012? 2014? ... Just checked, it's 2013. So it has maybe two years or so left in its life. I'll probably look to get one after the holiday season when there might be some buyers remorse.

I don't much let the "scare" of losing an opportunity to buy games sucker me into buying games or systems. For me, gaming should alleviate stress, not cause it.

So other than the Konami Rebirth games is there anything else to look out for here? Maybe stratogustav can come up with a big list for us?

I have heard good things about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, and My Life as a Darklord; I seem to remember the Gamesack folks having good things to say about Blaster Master: Overdrive.

Pimpjira here are 25 options: - Adventure Island The Beginning - Alien Crush Returns - Arkanoid Plus! - Art Of Balance - Balloon Pop Festival - Blaster Master Overdrive - Bomberman Blast - Bubble Bobble Plus! - Puzzle Bobble Plus! - Castlevania The Adventure ReBirth - Contra ReBirth - Dr. Mario Online Rx - Eco Shooter Plant 530 - Excitebike World Rally - FAST Racing League - Frogger Hyper Arcade Edition - Frogger Returns - Gradius ReBirth - Jett Rocket - Mega Man 9 - Mega Man 10 - Rainbow Islands Towering Adventure! - Star Soldier R - Tetris Party - WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase That said, it is important to remember that the Wii is the last console made for CRTs with a real composite cable utility. I do use a HDMI adapter to play the system with my modern TV, but when using composite on a CRT you can still play classic games the way they were ment to be played. In other words all those NES, SNES, N64, Master System, Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and Neo Geo games have a special value as the Wii is the last place where you can legally collect many of them in one single machine to be used with a CRT monitor. I'm personally buying the Super Nintendo games still available to play them with my original Super Famicon controller from the Nintendo Club. It also works with the Wii U, but I have a separate Wii console that I want those games for. There are also games like Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 that are not even available on the Wii U Store and are only available for the Wii Shop. That is also something to consider as it is unlikely they will ever get a Wii U release at this point. Pimpjira I'm not suggesting to get them all, but even having one game is already a win as your Wii pretty much becomes your legal licensed physical copy of that game.

I'd love to buy some N64 games before the service shuts down, namely Majora's Mask, since the version on the LoZ Collector's Disc for GC is very poorly emulated and crashes frequently. One of the main advantages of playing VC versions of N64 games is being able to use a vastly superior GC controller or classic controller.

I recently heard someone say that you can no longer purchase wii points. Is this true? Does this mean that there's no way to buy games on the Wii's VC anymore?

Heads up, the Wii U and 3DS stores are closing.----------------------- As of late March 2023, it will no longer be possible to make purchases in Nintendo eShop for the Wii U system and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. It will also no longer be possible to download free content, including game demos. Furthermore, as this date draws closer, related services will cease to function: As of May 23, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a credit card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. As of August 29, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. However, it will still be possible to redeem download codes until late March 2023. Users who link their Nintendo Network ID wallet (used with Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems) with their Nintendo Account wallet (used with the Nintendo Switch family of systems) can use the shared balance to purchase content on any of these systems until late March 2023. After that, the balance can only be used to purchase content for the Nintendo Switch family of systems. No changes are planned for Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch family of systems. The changes to Nintendo eShop on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems will simultaneously take effect in software on these platforms where it is possible to make purchases, such as StreetPass Mii Plaza, Theme Shop and Nintendo Badge Arcade. Even after late March 2023, and for the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLC, receive software updates and enjoy online play on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. We thank you for supporting Nintendo eShop on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. While we hope that you will continue to enjoy using these systems, we have taken this opportunity to prepare a website where you can look back on your time with them via various play statistics. Please visit my-nintendo-3ds-wiiu-memories.nintendo.com/.
