To be honest, this makes me curious about what's on the shop.
Is it possible the systems could be modded for a new indie games shop app? Imagine that would be a way to preserve "history" and developer's livelihoods, to a degree.
Like people in this thread were saying, DVD's and CD's don't last forever either. For long term game storage, maybe the best way to go is memory card, i.e. Switch and Vita.

My son and I were perusing the Wii U shop, and they've pulled a bunch of games. He wanted to get the original Luigi's mansion, and it is gone. We wanted to check out the Turbo Grafix 16 games, and they too were gone. I suppose they're going to be ported to the Switch.

I don't think Luigi's Mansion was ever on the Wii U eshop. They didn't have GameCube games.
There was the 3DS Remaster though.

I apologize if I am gaslighting, but my son and I could have sworn there were some Game Cube games on there. centipede, I don't have these games, but I've heard Affordable Space Adventures and Nano Assault Neo are the two to get. |

The Wii U is moddable to play GameCube games, and it may have been discussed here at some point? Perhaps that is what you're remembering?

I don't much let the "scare" of losing an opportunity to buy games sucker me into buying games or systems. For me, gaming should alleviate stress, not cause it. Neither do I. My current game collection is glad I didn't give in and buy another system.  But I'm still open to getting a Switch. |

By the way, the way I rationalize how stupid it was buying digital on Nintendo platforms is that I supported the great artists that made those games I had fun with. Other than that, it was a waste of money.
