And yeah, when I first saw the movie as a kid, I had no clue what was going on in Freddy 2. I had no concept of that stuff. The gay leather bar was just a bar. The leather daddy gym teacher was just an asshole. The kid had a hot girlfriend. No way was he into dudes despite running away from her before he was going to seal the deal, just to run into his shirtless buddies’ room. When he said “I want to sleep with you”, he just wanted to have a sleep over, of course. He was afraid of Freddy after all! That's great! But yeah... I don't think any movie portraying homesexuality as ugly, bad, and dumb would survive nowadays. I honestly don’t think they were trying to portray us as “bad” per say. It seemed like a lot of it was just metaphors for the main characters’ closeted homosexuality, but nothing vicious as movies of that era tended to be.

Balder - Lady Vengeance is awesome, indeed, though Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is, IMO, even better. Hell, Korean cinema in general is surprisingly awesome. I've seen this week Train to Busan (literally the best zombie movie since the Romero classics) and The Host. Those people know how to make great movies.

All of films in the Vengeance trilogy are great, but I would put them in this order Lady Vengeance> Oldboy > Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Train To Busan is incredible, but the greatest zombie movie since Romero is 28 Days Later, which is perhaps my favorite modern horror movie. I haven't seen The Host yet, but I've seen Snowpiercer (same director). Wasn't impressed by that one.

Back on topic: are slasher horror films really what Halloween is all about? To me something like Harry Potter is more Halloween than say Friday the 13th. On that note could we have a Friday the 13th discussion? I just marathon'd the first 6 films because it's Halloween.

We did talk about Jason Part IV starring Jason and Corey Feldman a while ago, but I’m always up for talking more Jason. Maybe Jason Part VIII when Jason goes to New York and kicks some street punk’s boom box.

Why would we discuss Jason in Freddy Krueger's thread? And WHY IS THAT PUMPKIN WINKING AT ME?!!
