I read everyday before I go to bed. Right now I'm reading The Four Books of Confucianism, which is The Great Learning, The Analects, Mencius and Maintaining Perfect Balance. Afterwards I'm going to read Xunzi (which is also about Confucianism). Then perhaps Tao Te Ching. I like philosophy, and lately it has been all about Chinese books. Which reminds me, I finished Romance of The Three Kingdoms not too long ago.

I've also been trying to find the Five Classics from the Confucian canon, but they just don't exist in English.

I stopped reading after I picked up on a horrible pattern in writing. After reading about 7 Robert Jordan novels in a row, I found his pattern, and now all written fiction is revealed to me as MadLibs and tropes, peppered with barely-changed archetypes. I can predict when jump-scares will happen, which lines are fail or death flags, and predict the end of a story arc a few moments into its start, barring any direction changes made at random through editorial mandate.
So I used to read, but now I do not. It's just a series of reading and predicting what will happen, until my dissatisfaction with the predictability of the book makes me stop reading it.

Out of curiosity Mister Xiado, do you find that had steered you from any other form of fiction in media? The same tropes are present in games, television and film as well.

Generally speaking I do read, from history books to crappy fanfiction. The last book I remember reading was The Broker and the one I'm currently reading is The Trigger.

Actually, what I meant was a sci-fi set in the present day, like the X-Files or Back to the Future.

This is personal information (which I try to avoid here in the pub), but I'm a professor of Literary Theory. Besides work-related stuff, I've just finished reading Chrétien de Troyes' Yvain (one of the originators of arthurian legends), I am in the middle of Goethe's Werther and have been reading a lot of stuff written by the awesome argentinian Jorge Luis Borges (either my favourite writer or my second one, since Cervantes is right up there). I was also reading a very well researched new translation (direct from the arabic) of "One thousand and one nights", but I got stuck in the first volume since last year and don't know when I'll go back to it, as I have a lot in my plate right now. centipede - There are the José Saramago's works, like "Blindness". It's all kinds of awesome and a very bleak dystopia (it's about a blindness epidemic).
