I never got into the Lumines series, I played a demo of the original on PSP back in the day but it failed to interest me and I fell in love with the Mercury series instead.
As for the Vs. of these two versions I will say this, Lumines was originally made for PSP so the visuals and everything were optimized to perfection for what they aimed to accomplish, it was met with pretty much universal praise and an overall score of 5/5.
The Remastered version on Switch has had a lot of complaints about long loading times and it's only available as a digital download from Nintendo's E-Shop, it's gotten an average score of 4/5 by critics and the general audience so far. The most standout thing the Switch Remastered version adds to the series would probably be the use of the dynamic vibration functionality of the controllers. Having a portable Lumines with HD visuals was already made reality on Vita back in 2012 with Lumines Electronic Symphony, so for Lumines fans the Switch Remastered version probably didn't feel all that new or improved, if anything being a Remastered version of the original rather than a proper new game for the series may even have caused it to feel like a step back.
With all this in mind my vote goes to the original on PSP.

Man, it doesn't get more modern than this, I just got this game a few days ago. I'm going to play it and give you my thoughts on it.

That's cool. Have you played the original before? No, but watching the videos is what made me buy the NS version since I don't have a PSP.

OK, so I played it a couple times and I can see myself getting really into this. I definitely love it. It is the first puzzle game that I have seen that it is completely different to Tetris, and yet, it still gives you the exact same kind of momentum and headspace Tetris does. It is truly remarkable. That said, even though I cannot directly compare it to the PSP or Vita versions, something tells me those versions don't have the problem I already experience 3 times on the Nintendo Switch version. 3 times the game has frozen on me. What it does is that it freezes for a second, then it gives you a pop up error message in the middle of the screen telling you that you have been disconnected from the Network, and then if you give it a little time it resumes normally, but the error pop up still stays on the screen for a second. Out of the 3 times this happened, only once it happened in the middle of the game and the other 2 times it happened after I lost. For me that's already a lot. I don't recall any other game ever having these kind of problems, specially on a Nintendo platform. This really came as a surprise. I don't know if I should delete it and install it again, and maybe that fixes it, but for a puzzle game having those kind of problems is definitely not ideal. Which makes me suspicious if this Nintendo Switch Remaster wasn't properly ported to the console. Cervantes I recommend this game to you. It is by the same guy that made Rez on the Dreamcast, and the upcoming Tetris Effect on PS4.
