Give some examples of how Star Trek is ignorant about the environment, because I think you're full of shit and don't know anything about it. Hey Balder, were drunk when you made that post? Did you miss the part where I said I have never watched much Star Trek? Obviously I don't know anything about it if I haven't watched it, shithead. Besides, it's just science fiction that was written in the 60s. Only a regressive pig like you would defend a science fiction series from the 60s as being "environmentally progressive". Space dramas like Star Trek never have any credibility in regards to environmental science. They have nothing to do with reality and only exist to entertain the masses.

It's progressive but not in the way you're thinking of. See, it was revolutionary back in the 60's. It may have had an American captain, but it also had a sexy negro female communications officerCareful there, Centipede. Here in the states, the word "negro" hasn't been politically correct for many decades. A white american using it today could insight a riot... Anyway, back to Star Trek. Unfortunately, that kind of progression wasn't what Balder was referring to when he summoned me here. Star Trek was written before scientists discovered most man made environmental catastrophes, like climate change for example, so I probably wouldn't find Star Trek very interesting or relevant. Therefore he's wrong about both the show and my personal taste. As I've said I only really enjoy dystopian sci-fi these days.

And who's going to be checking a bargain basement forum for racial slurs anyway? What should I be saying then? Black? African America? Besides, the word "Negro" means "Black" anyway.

I think it has something to do with the fact that "nigger" and "negro" were both derogatory terms that white americans invented during the slavery era. If you want to refer to their race, just call them african american or black. They're usually ok with that. Oh, and just an FYI: do NOT listen to scipioafricanus or winnersdontusedrugs on anything regarding black culture because they are NOT black and are merely whites hiding behind a black avatar for whatever reason. I wouldn't trust them on this issue. You can trust me, though.

It has fallen out of favor in today's society, but just go and look at Black writers and important figures from the 20th century, and they use it as their primary way of referring to themselves. Read any of the Harlem Renaissance writers or MLK. I don't think negro is viewed negatively, however, the term Black is the most common term of today. Why should we trust you over scipioafricanus or winnersdontusedrugs though? They never claimed to be Black. You however, hid behind a custom white ginger avatar for years, but now you're more tan and have brown hair. We need proof before we can trust you again.

I don't know why I thought Scipio was black, with no real evidence to back it up, but I still see him going straight for Roland if he ever plays Borderlands 1

We don't have a thread for the first Star Trek movie, but I'll just post my review of it in this thread:
"Finally after having The Original Series and The Animated Series, I will begin watching the Star Trek movies. Over watching this franchise, it has become clear to me that Star Trek really is something inherently unique and it is with no doubt in my mind, one of the best shows ever made. I wonder what it must have been like as a fan of the show back in the 60's and 70's when the show was cancelled and then, a decade later, they announce a movie on the backbone of the titanic success of Star Wars. Star Trek and Star Wars are two entirely different franchises, but due to their similar names and settings, these two get lumped together and compared. It is unfortunate, because this first Star Trek movie really suffered from that. Instead of giving us something truly Star Trek, the film tries to emulate some of the things that made Star Wars so successful. There is such an emphasis on special effects. Nearly every scene includes a bluescreen of some sort. The scenes that use models look extraordinary even today, however, there are some scenes where people are super-imposed onto the screen, and it looks kind of shit and wildly outdated. The score however, is perfection. It was the best follow up the original theme anyone could ever dream of. It was really fun to see the Enterprise crew get back to the ship after such a long hiatus. Kirk, Scotty and Bones are wonderful, however, I do not feel like Spock is Spock in this movie. It is as if he has lost all of his humanity and is now completely Vulcan. Something that also has to be said; the uniforms, my fuck do they look fucking awful. Bland and drab colors. What the hell happened in the costume department. Where are all of the fun colors? The mystery surrounding V'ger is pretty fun and it is one of the coolest aliens in the Star Trek universe this far into the franchise, and the reveal was quite clever. The main problem with this movie though, is the sluggish pace. I think there was a time and place for a slow introduction, however, the entire film follows this snail pace, and it is a huge problem, so much so that William Shatner thought the film had killed its opportunity to come back. There is a lot of moments in this movie that are wonderful, however, as a cohesive experience, it fails to capture what the first Star Trek movie should have been. Instead of making a Star Trek movie fans would celebrate, they tried to make a movie the general audience would have liked and pleased no one." 3/5 Can't wait to watch The Wrath of Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan

Maybe centipede can make one in your name, and we can move it there. Also the one for Mortal Kombat 2021 that Pimpjira suggested.

If you really want to get into the difference, after The Wrath of Khan, listen to the commentary from it's director, Nicholas Meyer. He realized what needed to be done to make something different and a good character study.
As for Star Wars, it is science fantasy. Star Trek is science fiction or as others say, science fact; hasn't happened yet, but "it could" in the future.

I see that The Next Generation started to air before the Star Trek V and VI. So to those who watched all of this, should I watch V and VI before starting TNG or start TNG and then watch the films when they come up?

So to those who watched all of this, should I watch V and VI before starting TNG or start TNG and then watch the films when they come up? Doesn't really matter. They don't go together. Star Trek: Generations is a different story. TNG starts out very "Gene" and then changes after the 3rd season, I think I recall. The cast settles in after that and blends better.
