Trying to cut down the amount of movies I watch

My kids wanted to pick up the Ice Age sequels at Goodwill recently. I don't know if I watched the 2nd or 3rd one, but man was it boring. What a shame... I craved watching the first one the other day, and that first movie, despite looking slightly shit due to the old CGI effects, the movie itself holds up well I think, the sequels though... a complete waste of time.

We watched Premonition with my wife the other day, it was weird, but she really enjoyed it.

I watched Storm Boy (2019) last night. It was half remake, half sequel to one of the classic Australian film, in that the boy was now a grandfather (Geoffrey Rush) recounting his story to his granddaughter. Which is why the story seemed condensed like a made-for-TV adaptation. Cinematography seemed a bit brighter than the original, but I thought for characters, for people who lived in the wilderness, would be a little scruffier.

I spent the holiday finally watching The Hobbit trilogy, and then followed it up by another rewatch of The Lord of the Rings. It's hard to watch them back to back, as The Hobbit is so inferior to LotR: it's hard to pinpoint exactly what are the problems, but it goes down to a bad script and exaggerated, "weightless" cgi action scenes. LotR has way more dialogue scenes than I remembered, all of them good (while The Hobbit focuses on action) and they tried to keep the action mostly grounded, even when using cgi. If Game of Thrones and The Hobbit were on opposing sides, LotR's action would be near the middle, but leaning towards GoT.
Recently, I've also watched Contact (1997) and Sphere (1998). Late 90s' sci-fi movies are the best, I love them.

Those Lord Of The Rings movies are some of those films I never understood entirely when they came out, besides the general idea. So watching them again will probably be fun. The same goes with Harry Potter. Maybe I will like them now that I can actually understand what they are talking about beyond the general plot.

I watched The Batman yesterday. It's really good. I would say it's right up there among The Dark Knight and Batman Returns as one of my favourite Batman films.

Yeah, The Batman was solid, they really know their crowd. They did a good job in making him feel like that can happen, that some guy can actually go through some of his experiences and end up acting that way and doing those things, and the same goes with the villains.

The family had a movie night this past weekend, and we watched the new Ghostbusters movie. It was pretty good. Nothing compares to the original, but it was better than 2. Ghostbusters Afterlife had an interesting, yet thin story. I'd watch it again. I hope these new kids are used in a new series. I feel like this movie was a passing of the torch, and I think the kid actors are good enough to do their own thing.

-The Matrix, which has aged quite well since 1998. -Guardians of Gahoole. I was surprised to learn it was an AUSSIE hi-def CGI flick, maybe the only one. Fight scenes were purdy, but plot was a bit thin. Probably because they were expecting a sequel. dschult3 You mean the 2016 reboot?-

I just watched Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike on Blu-Ray. For some reason, the Blu-Ray was 50% off on Amazon, so I jumped on it. I'm glad I did, because I really enjoyed the movie. This is a prequel to the video game, and many of the original characters are in it, if not briefly. I liked it a lot, and I believe it is because of my connection to the game. Seeing Flynn and Yuri together in the knights and figuring out why Yuri ultimately quit was a treat. Seeing how the main storyline of the game started to take shape was even better. Hearing the theme at the end was the best. It makes me want to replay the game. I'll leave the trailer here to whet your appetites. Check it out if you can.

I watched Spider-Man 3 last night, definitely the weakest of the three, but entertaining still. Sound effects were surprisingly good, and the art design is good too.

I watched Shrek The Halls, 'cos Christmas in July I didn't know Ogres don't celebrate Christmas... A budget film called 'The Vortex'. Silly characers and bad CGI scorpions and snakes who get really big from these interdimensional crystals. Set in Afghanistan, but clearly film somewhere in one of the local deserts. 'Drone'. Similar to Strato's pick, a drone pilot accidentally kills a Pakistani mother and daughter, so one year later, the father goes looking and finds the pilot and holds his family hostage. Felt like it should have been a shorter film, but it drops a possible Batman Gambit at the end.

Everyone complains about the movie, and yet I watched it three times while I couldn't even finish the newest Disney/Marvel movies. It's the weakest Sam Raimi entry, but still a Sam Raimi movie. Also, Bruce Campbell has a small but memorable part, that already counts for something.
