Case in point: Well, the movies does reference to all the coolest movies from the last 25 years in a very lighthearted way. I was truly impressed with how deep it went into human psychology, spirituality, and social commentary, without pushing the usual agendas you expect from Hollywood, and maybe that's why I end up liking the movie so much.

My daughter just had me watch 101 Dalmatians (on VHS) with her. That was the first time I've seen it in decades. I kind of dig that early 1960s animation style.

Dumb Money - about the Gamestop share price two years ago. Wish it focused a little more on the technicalities of what they were doing.

I got a trial of Paramount Plus. I've already seen 'Beavis and Butthead Do The Universe', and it's where Beavis and Butthead get warped into the year 2022 from 1998. At one point, Beavis is talking to Siri, thinking it's a real person. I can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't have the same feel as the old episodes, not even the short lived reboot from around when Twilight was big (they did an episode where the boys were trying to turn itno vampires to get chicks).
Next thing, I'm going to watch Airplane!

Last week, I watched the original Star Wars trilogy with my kids. My daughter watched it for the first time and loved it. Then we sang this:
Good times.

My kids want to see Miyazaki's newest film that is supposed to release next week, The Boy and the Heron. So, we picked up a couple of Ghibli movies we haven't seen yet. Last night, we watched Whisper of the Heart, which has a connection to The Cat Returns. It is a sweet movie about 8th grade kids finding their way. I feel like this one is overlooked, as it came out in 1995, and the box says it is from the creators of Spirited Away, yet that movie game out in 2001! It wasn't a bad film overall. It wasn't Earth shattering, but I'd recommend it.
Next up is Princess Mononoke.

Princess Mononoke was fantastic. Just like NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind, I wanted to know SO much more about the world in which this story came. I feel like early on in the Studio Ghibli world, they were obsessed with creating grandiose stories. I want to know more about the exiled peoples of the east. I want to know more about the Empire. I want to know more about the spirit gods and why humans rebelled against them. I want to know more about the peoples of Iron Town. Everything is interesting!
The animation is fantastic, as usual. The pacing is great. The story telling is superb. I only have two issues with the movie. I feel like the beginning left out information about their bylaws. It didn't makes sense that our main character had to leave the tribe, just because he had to find a way to survive the curse. The second issue is more of a localization issue. Jada Pinkett Smith is one of the VAs. Just the sound of her voice irks me, after all the nonsense she has pulled in the last year.
One of the greatest attributes in the story telling belongs to the fact that no one is clearly a "bad guy." You'd think Lady Eboshi is evil, but then you realize that she cares for the poor and downtrodden. You'd think the forest gods are the "good guys," but then you see the god of the boars is obsessed to the point that he is willing to lose every last member of his army (and his species), just to get revenge. San is clearly brainwashed, yet she seems confused by her feelings in the 3rd act. Even Jigo, who is clearly a slime ball, makes you realize that the world is a messed up place, and he is only trying to get what he can with the rules made by powerful entities that he has no power over. The movie isn't a grey "I feel dirty after watching this" type of movie. It just makes you realize that everyone has their own reasons for doing what they are doing, and that Ashitaka, who seems like he is playing both sides, understands that there is a rhyme and reason to everyone's thinking, yet people need to open their minds in order to listen to the issues at hand in order to have true peace.
This movie is so well done. It belongs on the top of anybody's Ghibli list. I'm not sure where I'd put it, but it is definitely on my top 5.

I forgot this one. It was pretty good. It is named "All Quiet In The Western World".
I believe is German, it had a French ending.

Another one I saw was this one called "Reptile". It was OK.
I'm trying to catch up. There are many I have missed.

I also saw "Cold Pursuit" again. What's crazy is that I saw this movie before I believe, but it felt like I was watching it for the first time again.

I saw "Leave The World Behind". It was pretty good writing. They could have essily made it into a small mini series instead. It could have done more.
Somehow produced by the Obamas, talks about how from within there are forces wanting to divide people to kill each other. Also the irony of how even in those circumstances money is still a story people subscribe to. It was quite entertaining at the very least.
