Evil Dead Rise. Groovy as hell. Evil Dead without Bruce. It may be a fine movie but I just can’t. Evil Dead and Bruce are linked in my brain.

Evil Dead Rise. Groovy as hell. Evil Dead without Bruce. It may be a fine movie but I just can’t. Evil Dead and Bruce are linked in my brain. They focused on the deadites themselves this time, especially the "mother" one. She's nasty, completely deranged. This way, the movie avoided to look like it was trying to replace Bruce with some random jabroni. The dumb people dying to the deadites don't even try to look as cool as Bruce, and I can approve that. Today I rewatched Evil Dead 1, 2 and Army of Darkness (I had already rewatched Evil Dead 2013 last week). To fill my Bruce quota, tomorrow I'll start rewatching Ash vs Evil Dead, which is great because it has both Bruce and Lucy Lawless.

Continuing the Studio Ghibli theme, the kids and I watched Nausicaa: Of The Valley Of The Wind and The Cat Returns. I'll write more about Nausicaa in our thread later. As for The Cat Returns, that's a crazy, fun movie. It isn't an "instant classic," but it is short, interesting, ridiculous, and fun. I had fun with both of the movies, and once again, I recommend both of them.

Have you watched the show that came out with him and Evil Dead? I’ve heard it’s pretty good. The trilogy is amazing, but I never saw the show nor the remake. I have picked up the show on Blu-ray and I’ll watch it one day, but you know, finding the time to do so is difficult.

If watching Ash vs Evil Dead was what was keeping you from watching Enter the Ninja, I wouldn’t have to give you grief because watching Bruce is what I would deem as an acceptable use of your time.

The animated series was janky as hell, the films kicked ass for the most part, and I'm half way through The Next Generation which I have been turning on and off. It's a pretty good show, and I don't know why I haven't finished it yet.

I saw Hard Target today, pretty awesome movie, lots of action, and excess of bullets for every single kill. Just finished a fresh viewing of Hard Target and I forgot how sweet this movie is. I love how Van Damme shot that guy a bunch of times, hit him with a jumping reverse roundhouse kick, then shot him a bunch more times. Also of note, a cameo by TED RAIMI.

I watched MoonFall. That lady attitude was annoying, but the movie was entertaining. Similar to 2012 in many ways. Just mixing some facts with some fantasy to make it relatable. Funny enough the fantasy parts are what makes it relatable.

I just watched Howl's Moving Castle (which I just discussed in our thread) and The Wind Rises. The Wind Rises was a great movie. It focuses on the life of Jiro Horikoshi, who is credited for developing the A5M and the A6M Japanese Zero. Like his hero, the famed airplane designer Giovanni Battista Caproni of Italy, he just wants to develop flying machines, yet his designs are destined to be used for war. It seems as though anyone with a brain during this period was tragically doomed to providing knowledge for killing machines, yet their legacy continues past their life on this Earth. The Wind Rises is a great film, and I recommend it.

I just finished watching Castle in the Sky with the kids. That movie was fantastic! I suppose I can write more later on, but I was extremely happy with it.

I went to see Barbie by mistake, bought tickets for IMAX Oppenheimer, and DBOX, but it turned out they were tickets for Barbie. When the movie started I just wasn't prepared for it, but it was too late, so I end up watching it, same thing my wife.
The good thing is that Barbie wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to be about modern feminism, #meetoo, LGBTQ+, and all of that, and it wasn't.
They used all those things during the movie because nowadays they have to, but the movie was more a bunch of cool references to The Truman Show, Fight Club, Memento, basically some of my favorite movies of all time.
On top of that they had a bunch of references to gnosticism, the garden of Adam and Eve, people becoming gods at the end, etc., which is all good classic Christianity stuff I like from movies like The Matrix Trilogy.
But of course I still had to go see Oppenheimer and so I went and it was marvelous, I enjoyed it from beginning to end, the humor was super silly but hilarious, the casting was amazing and they dropped an atomic bomb which is amazing on itself.
The silence of that moment was intense at the theater, and the sound of the subwoofers was right on the one I was.
On a side note, the movie did make the Jews look bad which doesn't happen very often in Hollywood, it reminded me of The Passion Of The Christ for that, so I'm surprised this film isn't controversial.
The ending was definitely moving, it teared me up for sure as I was walking out of the theater, same thing as The Passion Of The Christ. It is the closest movie to it.
So I actually recommend both, they are the best movies I have seen on theaters since before the pandemic.
