No. No. No. You guys just don't get it.
1st world countries are largely to blame for most of the planet's current environmental problems and, in the case of the US, political problems. There isn't a single 1st world country where citizens live sustainably. Not one. Everyone in these countries uses way more resources than the planet can afford, eat lots of meat (which goes with my previous point about over-consumption of resources), creates too much CO2 while not paying any carbon tax whatsoever. This is especially true in America. Americans eat more meat than any other country. Livestock require a ridiculous amount of resources just to make it to maturity, and their meat contains a measly fraction of the calories of the food they've eaten throughout their lives. Even the most sustainable meat (chicken) is still unsustainable.
Most people are unaware of the fact that the fast food industry is responsible for most of the deforestation occurring in South America; due to the sheer amount of resources cattle require, there isn't enough available grassland in 1st world countries to raise them. So they've been making space in uninhabited wilderness (like the amazon rainforest) by hiring people to burn it down and convert it to grassland, releasing immense amounts of CO2 and causing millions of flora & fauna to go extinct in the process. Fast food is a horrible, corrupt industry that wouldn't exist in a perfect world. Too bad not enough people are willing to boycott it (or meat in general for that matter). Humans don't "need" meat to survive anyway. There's plenty other foods to get protein from (like nuts, soy and eggs).
And lastly, the US started the war against muslims AND the vietnam war! The US is the single most belligerent, invasive, and war-hungry country on the planet! And just look what we did to the native americans! They offered us food and peace on the day we first arrived, but we responded by stealing their land, killing their people, and destroying their culture! It's beyond sick, especially when you realize that the native americans actually lived sustainably and had complete & utter respect for the land and its animals, unlike the anglo saxons who took it forcefully from them.
And on top of all that, not one first world country has enforced laws to control population growth.
It's despicable. Just thinking about this makes me clench my teeth in anger.
