I have both versions and they're both great, ultimately the PSP versions wins for me because I don't like the touch screen controls on DS and while I like the cartoony style of the DS version a little bit more than the gloomier realistic look on PSP, at least from a nostalgic and artistic point of view of me being a fan of the original GTA which also had a more cartoony visual style, the overall boost in visual quality on PSP more than makes up for it in the end.
Beside the controls and visuals they're extremely similar so it's a relatively even battle, if you have either system (or both) I'd recommend both versions of the game.

I just had Déjà Vu. I remember we covered this topic somehow, maybe in the old forum, and a big part of the debate was whether the use of the original cartoony artwork GTA was originally known for was actually more relevant to the essence of the series and how it made the DS version stand out. I thought the DS version was the original idea first from the developers after all those arguments.

Yeah, like I said I prefer the cartoony style but the superior quality on PSP more than makes up for it.
I don't remember much in detail from the old forum but I seem to recall talking about this game at some points in the past, one might have been on the old CGR forum, I know I've talked about it in other forums as well over the years.

Yeah, we had a long discussion and it went on for many pages. Everybody probably forgot by now.

I tried both versions before deciding which one to invest time in. Sharper visuals did not equal a better game for me - It was the touch controls that made it fun, and a second screen for navigation was much more convenient for getting around. Plus, throwing molotovs by flicking the pen rocked - massacred many a gang that way... And just to confirm, yep, the DS version was the original concept. I don't really remember that topic in the old forum, although I did remember writing one of those short paragraph reviews for the game saying pretty much what I just did here.
