I don't remeber why, but I didn't like the GG game all that much. My vote goes to the GB one.

I didn't know Mega Man had some titles on a Sega system. That is really surprising to hear considering how much Mega Man in general avoided those platforms for no reason.

I didn't know Mega Man had some titles on a Sega system. That is really surprising to hear considering how much Mega Man in general avoided those platforms for no reason. There were quite a few Mega Man games on SEGA systems; Mega Man on Game Gear, Mega Man The Wily Wars on Mega Drive (similar to Super Mario All-Stars on SNES, the original Mega Man NES trilogy remade as 16-bit games), and finally a few more on Saturn; Mega Man 8, Mega Man X3, Mega Man X4 and Super Adventure Rockman (Japan only, FMV railshooter based on the original Capcom animated series). There were sadly never any Mega Man games on Master System, Mega CD, 32X or Dreamcast, though a homebrew Master System port of NES Mega Man 2 may be in the works, but information on this project is very limited and I've found nothing new in a long time so it may be on hiatus or dead, I don't know. A majority of the series definitely gravitates toward Nintendo and SONY hardware though.

The Game Gear game wins simply because the box art actually resembles how the character designs are supposed to look, which has to be a first for a western release of a Mega Man game.

That's a great point. I'll definitely vote for that. Armored Core Raven, I didn't know Mega Man 8 came out on the Saturn, that's a big deal because that's around the time the game was out which mean it wasn't a port, but an actual release. I haven't tried the 16 bit remakes of Mega Man. I would be interested in doing that for sure. I like the 16 bit remakes of the Super Mario Bros. games, they are notvas good as thd originals on 8 bits, but they are still cool if you play them as a game plus.

stratogustav It seems Mega Man 8 is ranked as one of the rarest games on the Saturn, so it's understandable that few even know it exists. About these two on GB and GG, I'm voting for the GG Mega Man. I enjoy the colors and visual quality a lot in this and it really adds that level of extra polish I want from a Mega Man game, something the Game Boy game of course completely lacks. The Game Boy game and multiple sequels it had are all good in other ways but the lack of color really hurt them for me, being used to the Entertainment System games with their excellent use of the very limited palette that system had, managing to look very colorful with good compositions and mixes that never felt drab or ugly, they were all impressive accomplishments on the Entertainment System for sure. The Game Gear Mega Man doesn't just carry over the tradition, but improves upon it quite a lot, much thanks to the very impressive color palette that even surpassed that of the mighty Master System, in my opinion making it one of the best looking games the Game Gear has to offer. Beside the visuals it's pretty much exactly like the rest of the series, with tight controls, hard difficulty, good music, bosses you get new weapons from after defeating them, additional moves to use, secrets to find, health and special weapon ammo pickups dropped from defeated enemies etc., it's all there and it's all as good as it ever was. I have only a few complains in total but they're more toward the series as a whole than this game in particular, like how there are some cheap insta-deaths you simply have to remember to avoid by repeat gameplay, how bosses are virtually impossible to beat unless you take them in the preferred order and use whatever weapon they are weak against, how the games practically require you to find secrets and have them in order to complete the game, and so on. So yeah, a great game, definitely a favorite of mine on the Game Gear and a high ranking favorite in the entire series/franchise overall.
