I'm rather concerned about this online path that Nintendo is going down. They have been traditionally known for excellence in quality single player game design. To have them hop on to the subscription bandwagon now... There's just that looming fear of a DLC/microtransaction slippery slope... Depending on what happens, I may need to re-evaluate my plans for the inevitable Switch version 2. I'm not really worried as of yet. I haven't had that sinking feeling that they're going to nickle and dime us, because they were just talking about how they don't like the gaming model on phones these days. My feeling is that Nintendo will stick to the tried and true method of single player game design. I like the benefits for $20. I have a feeling more will come as time goes on, and perhaps it will cost more to get more.

Yes, Miyamoto himself spoke about it, and even adviced other publishers to not be so greedy, that they should think more of the future, and that in the long run, making just some quick money may not be worth it.
They probably will be able to hold on for a while, they always do hold on to most things for the longest when it comes to traditional stuff.
If that's why they were the last ones to join mobile even when people with their IPs could have produced something like the Pokémon Go phenomenon years ago.
Although it's cool VR games are getting made by Nintendo.

Today's Nintendo Direct was pretty damn cool if you ask me. Astral Chain and Oninaki came out of nowhere and look amazing. Links Awakening looks interesting. I'm not into the kiddie look, but you never know. It maybe fun. Super Mario Maker 2 looks like a dump truck full of fun. Dragonquest IX, Fire Emblem, and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night look outstanding. Oh, and Final Fantasy IX is now out.
Color me impressed this go around, gentlemen.

Definitely some good stuff in there.
Super Mario Maker 2 I kind of expected any port of this to include slopes, but it is nice that they seem to be adding a ton more. I kind of hope that it comes with a capacitive touchscreen stylus. I suspect if you use it in docked mode, it will rely on unwieldy motion controls, so might be a downgrade from the Wii U version in that respect, but I suspect folks will mostly build levels in handheld mode anyway.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Looks like a great remake. Cute art style, and the overworld reminds me of 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Octopath Traveler in a really positive Way.
Tetris 99 Battle Royale Tetris is a neat idea. Downloaded this for free last night and had some fun.

I wonder if they're going to make a Zelda version of Mario Maker.

So they finally decided to remake the best Zelda.
I liked the artstyle, it's similar to what they did for A Link Between Worlds (just a bit more chibi-like), it's very true to the original sprites. Another great thing about it is: it opens the possibility of remakes for the Oracle games, as they could use the exact same visuals/engine.
The GB Zeldas were among the very best in the series, so I wish they get a second chance through remakes.

Man, the Switch is such a massive success now, even Mortal Kombat 11 is coming to it, and with the announcement of Super Mario Maker 2 there is only one game left that keeps the Wii U value, and that is Super Mario 3D World. Once Super Mario 3D World gets a port, if it does. The Wii U will be completely gone from history as a completely unnecessary system just like the Virtual Boy. It is the one good thing the Wii U is still holding on to. I loved my Wii U, but even I will admit that if Super Mario 3D World gets ported the Wii U is no more. For me Link's Awakening is one of the most overrated Zelda games, the Oracle Seasons games are actually much better, but, and that's a big but, Link's Awakening is still a Zelda game, and it is still worth playing. I will definitely buy the remake. I'm even excited for it. A Link Between Worlds was such an excellent game, there is no reason to believe this will be any different. That Platinum game looks low budget, but I'm sure it will still have all the great gameplay Platinum is known for, so I'm looking forward for it. I'm surprised they announced Grid Autosport. That was our game to go for with lukefonfabre388, but I don't know if I would be able to enjoy it without a wheel. It has been like 5 years for Ritual Of The Night, it is about time they release it. That game has been one of the biggest cravings in the community for a long time already.

Well, aside from Super Mario 3D World coming over from the Wii U, I'd still like to see ports for (in the spirit of a Stratogustav list):
Dr. Luigi Fatal Frame The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Pikmin 3 Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE The Wonderful 101 Xenoblade Chronicles X Yoshi's Woolly World
Neat to see elements of 3D World in the Super Mario Maker 2 trailer.

Yes, I was excited to see those 3D World elements. This was a huge announcement for sure. About the other games you mentioned I do love Twilight Princess HD, and Wind Waker HD, but the HD part isn't enough for me to say they are essential. Dr. Luigi is cool. I do like that game, and I would love to see it come back, but it is still not essential to me considering there are many other Dr. Mario games, but I keep my hopes up they'll bring it too. The 3DS port of Yoshi's Woolly World isn't bad, so there is that. The other games I can see people liking those, but I never owned them so I won't miss them. I do may want to try that Fatal Frame game, maybe they'll bring it to Steam at least. So for me at this point I can move on from the original Super Mario Maker, and welcome the second one with all those new additions. As of right now, I'm not giving up on my Wii U because of Super Mario 3D World, but if they announce that, I'm giving it up. I hate to admit it, but I know that's what's going to happen. Maybe we'll get lucky and we'll get all those games yoy mentioned ported, plus Color Splash. We can only hope. At the same time, that would be the end of the Wii U as a system. The Wii U will still remain as a modern 32X, so I'm sure some people will still keep it for that.

So, quite a bit was announced in today's Nintendo Direct. Of course, I lost my shit over Xenoblade Chronicles: The Definitive Edition. (I'm still holding on to hope for my February 16th post...) I've read that they've had the original voice actors in for more dialog. I hope the connection to the Blade system and Ontos is hashed out. If that happens, I think I'll flip out like I did when I first watched the cut scene for chapter 10 in Xenoblade 2.
I really like the Super Nintendo games that are going to be released online. I'll be dumping hours of my time in the classics, that's for sure. I think I may even pick up their new SNES controller.
I have some friends who are ecstatic about the Tokyo Mirage Sessions release. I'm not sure if I would like that game, but to each their own.
Trials of Mana looks rather good. A few more games that we already knew about were discussed even more so. But....
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM 64!
I loved that game, but the damn game was mostly played in the shade. The first thing I noticed was the increase in the lighting effects. I think I'll be picking that one up.
So, what do you all think? Is there anything you're excited about like me? (Xenoblade!)

Nice to see the SNES games finally coming out Maybe I'll give Xenoblade Chronicles another shot with the definitive edition. What little is there really looks nice. I really enjoyed Tokyo Mirage Sessions originally, but I don't know if I'd buy it again unless there are substantial additions. That said, it does deserve a wider audience. Still looking forward to Trials of Mana. Gotta finish the original. Cool that more DLC fighters will be coming for Smash, though it isn't really my thing these days. Definitely has some friends happy, and I don't see any reason things like Mario Kart, and Smash shouldn't get updates throughout the life of the console. Super cool that Deadly Premonition is getting a sequel. Love that game. Free Kirby game. No expectations, but for free, don't need any.

As expected the console is selling like fresh bread, so it is not surprise to see this much support pouring in. I still remember those days when people would tell me the Switch was going to be a failure, and I laughed. Not that it matters, but people were saying it will hardly pass 20 million, and here we are at 37 million. Then there is Pokémon coming out soon, and think what that's going to do to the already successful sales.
These news are important even if they didn't cover them in the Direct because that's the reason all the Directs have been this good as a consequence, publishers see the success, and they keep making the Switch into the dreamy handheld device we a want. At this point my only hope is to see Rare IPs there again, specially KI, but even without that, I still love everything is offering now.
My only fear is that we will never see 3D World ported which in my opinion is one of the top 3 games of the decade along with Bloodborne, and of course Breath Of The Wild. 3D World is a legit masterpiece, and it deserves a bigger audience. Hopefully we will see it in the Switch at some point, but that's not something I'm counting on.
I was very pleased to see SNK represented in Smash. It was really missing since we already had Namco, Capcom, Konami, Rare, and Square Enix represented. Now we just need Tecmo, and it is complete, hopefully Hayabusa, other than that, perhaps a Double Dragon character from Arc System Works, but seeing Terry is already more than enough for me, it means we will likely also get an Amiibo at some point, and that will be nice to have as well.

I think it is the best Mario game to have come out in 10 years. I do think it will be ported, though. They just need to be very careful with their re-release dates. Releasing too much too fast may hurt any anticipation and future sales. That is why I'm pretty sure that Xenoblade Chronicles X will be ported in the years ahead. (Still holding on to the hope that the Xenogears/Xenosaga games come out!)
