I see you mentioned Speed Racer stratogustav I watched that a ton as a kid. I didn't realize it was an anime (I thought it was an american cartoon) but now that you mention it it's so obvious. I haven't seen that show in years, I'm totally gonna watch an episode or two now. I thought the same, and the same thing goes for Ulysses 31, some of these are very deceiving. I bought the movie made by the Wachowski brothers on Blu-Ray and that's how I knew Speed Racer was an anime because they clearly like anime with The Animatrix and all.

Guilion But that didn't look so bad from the screenshots. The opening is quite catchy too. However beyond the surface lies a giant one trick pony. And uh... I didn't know there were any Speed Racer fans in here (Guess I should've guessed considering half of the userbase is over 30) but still, it's nice to know. Edit: Yes, I do realize enjoying Speed Racer while bashing another show for being a one trick pony is a bit hyprocritical.

Yes, I do realize enjoying Speed Racer while bashing another show for being a one trick pony is a bit hyprocritical. Funny thing with the one trick pony. Even though Speed has nine different buttons (and the abilities activated by them are the pony) he only ever presses one. I think it was 4, but they always show the same clip of him pressing the button no matter what the Mach 5 actually does. My dad said that when he would watch it on TV growing-up, he would always sit in suspense, waiting for the day that Speed would actually press a different button.

I watched a bit of Speed Racer as a kid, although don't remember much about it. But I must say: I really like the movie and don't understand why it was so reviled on its release.

CervantesYeah, usually anything the Wachowskis do is good but it can easily be misinterpreted. Look at Jupiter Ascending, on the surface it looks like another sci-fi chick flick, but you can still tell underneath all that they are talking about way deeper stuff just like they did in V For Vendetta.

So, I just revisited this thread to make a small recomendation if anyone of you is interested.
I'll post the best synopsis of the plot without giving many spoilers below:
SPOILER Once upon a time there was a monk on a living on his lonesome inside a stereotyped Japanese temple with an special ability; any and all drawings he did would come to life and breaking said drawing would immediately destroy whatever he drew. Among the many drawings he did to keep him company and keep him bussy there was a small black rabbit called Koto, which served as the guardian of the temple and the town. As time went on Koto fell in love with the monk and took special pity on him as the entire town hated him thanks to the nuisance his drawings caused to the small comunity.
Thus, a goddes gave Koto a human body so she could live with the monk and both stopped being misserable. As time went by the monk eventually fell in love with Koto and together they had three kids; one human and two drawings. However the people of the small town were even more displeased with this turn of events as the family caused an even bigger commotion than the monk ever did on his lonesome.
And so, Koto decided the next course of action would be for everyone to move to the town the monk had drawn up in the back of the temple. This town had special rules; nothing ever grew old, nothing could die and nothing could be broken. Even more years went by with the family living hapily in the paralel dimension, however the monk and Koto had to leave the town behind as Koto had made a deal with the goddes that lent her a human body and the time for the deal was up. It should be noted in their haste to leave the town behind they also left their children.
Finally the show skips forward to modern times and the main premise begins as the version of "Kyoto" inside the painting starts to become unstable and starts to overlap different versions of Kyoto with different dimensions. END SPOILER
That should just about cover the first episode of the show. It's one of those shows you have to watch about two or three times in order to get everything that's going on with the plot and another couple of times to notice the small details in the background. My only real complain is that it was supervised by Koei animation of all people and as such the animation isn't as top-notch as it should be, but regardless I'm glad someone gave the show a shot, even if it was a total flop.

Finishing up Freezing and Freezing Vibration. Both really good Anime, definitely much better than it was Queen's Blade. They are taking them down tomorrow from Netflix so I had to rush through the whole thing this weekend.

I freaking love girls und panzer. I need to watch some more of it. They have a game out on the vita and its super import friendly. I want it so badly. I thought about the limited edition variant but its a bit out of my price range and I still have to pay for shipping.
